The purpose of this study
were to study the level of performance of the Basic Education School
Boards of in Phuket Educational Area, and to compare the level of
their performance according to their status, educational background,
occupations and income. The researcher also looked at the problems
and provided some suggestions for the improvement of the members
The sample of this project was 435 members
of the Basic Education School Boards from 85 schools in Phuket Educational
Area. Questionaires were used in to collect data in this study.
The data was then analyzed and shown in percentages , mean , standard
deviation, t-test and F- test. . The results of analysis were as
1. The level of the performance of the members
the Basic Education School Boards was moderate in all aspects. It
was found that there was a significant difference, at the 0.01 level,
in the performance level of the board members based on their social
status, occupation and educational achievement. However, there was
no significant difference in the performance of board members with
differing income levels.
2. It was found that there were many problems
found with the performance of the members the Basic Education School
Boards . The problems included the following ; members did not have
adequate knowledge about their roles ; schools did not provide enough
opportunities for the members to participate ; members did not have
time to attend the schools meetings and activities ; schools lack
a process of evaluation and reporting to the community.
3. The researcher suggests some strategies
to improve the performance of the members the Basic Education School
Boards as follows : the school should organize regular meetings
for the members to inform them about their roles, to provide useful
guidelines for their work and to encourage the members to participate
in making decisions about the schools plan so that the members
realize the importance of their role and their responsibilities.
